Overview:

This is a 2 day short tour from Quito to Cotopaxi National Park and the Quilotoa Lagoon. The Cotopaxi Volcano is one of the highest active volcanoes in the world and a truly majestic sight. This tour will give you the chance to explore the incredible Cotopaxi National Park and it’s astonishing view. The second day, you will travel a couple more hours to visit the Quilotoa Lagoon, an unbelievable turquoise-colored lake located in the caldera of an active volcano. Lake Quilotoa is a place that must be seen to be believed! This short tour to Cotopaxi and Quilotoa makes for a great 2-day escape from Quito.


Highlights:

  • Visit Cotopaxi National Park, where you’ll be able to see amazing panoramic views of the famous Cotopaxi Volcano – Cotopaxi
  • If you’re lucky, you’ll have the chance to spot some of the park’s majestic native wildlife. Species that call the park home include wolves, rabbits, bears and condors – Cotopaxi
  • Embark on a guided exploration of the Limpiopungo Lagoon, a stunning glacial lake in the shadow of the Cotopaxi Volcano – Cotopaxi
  • Visit the José Rivas Refuge, the most popular base camp for mountaineers planning to climb the volcano – Cotopaxi
  • Enjoy free use of the luxurious spa area at the Chuquiragua Lodge, including both a jacuzzi and sauna. Massages are also available at a small extra cost. If you wish to avail yourself of these facilities you must advise the receptionist upon your arrival to enable them to prepare the water – Cotopaxi
  • Toachi Canyon is a small, gorgeous canyon that is missed by many travelers. We’ll get off the beaten track and make a brief stop here to take some photos and appreciate an exquisite view of the Ecuadorian countryside – Toachi Canyon
  • Once we’ve arrived at the Quilotoa Lagoon, we will visit the Shalala Mirador lookout point for some of the most breathtaking views you’ve ever seen – Quilotoa
  • Your guide will bring you to some nearby artisan workshops and museums where you will be able to learn about the local culture and treat yourself to a handmade souvenir – Quilotoa
  • On the return trip, we will visit the Quilotoa Mirador for another beautiful view of the lake – Quilotoa

Tour Itinerary & What's Included

Day 1

6:30am - 7:00am

Depart Lima - We pick up directly from hostels and hotels for safety and comfort. If staying in an Airbnb just email us. Your booking confirmation (ticket) will show you your exact pick-up time (depends on where you are staying!)

9:30am - 10:00am

INCLUDED ACTIVITY

Breakfast Stop & Peruvian Horse Dance Show – We stop for the chance to try a unique breakfast straight from the bread ovens of Mirasur – Enjoy some of the freshest baked bread in Peru and watch the local horses as they show the traditional dance of Caballos del Paso – yes, the horses dance! (breakfast not included)

Bus arrives to Paracas, a beautiful small town by the sea.

12:00pm until the next day

Night in Paracas. Walk by the calm beach and catch the beautiful sunset or enjoy some of Peru's tastiest seafood in this small town by the sea.

OPTIONAL EXTRA

Golden Shadows Trek – Tour to the heart of the Paracas National Reserve to experience an unforgettable sunset at Kori-Apu, the Golden mountain (la montaña dorada). As the sun sets, the rocks along the cliffs light up a golden color, and where even the shadows are aglow, lending to the name of the tour. Day 2

8:00am - 10:00am

2 hour boat tour of the Ballestas Islands. The Ballestas are a smaller version of the Galapagos, but just as great, where you'll see sea lions, penguins and lots of birds all in there natural habitat.

11:00am - 1:00pm

Tour of Paracas National Reserve - one of South America's biggest protected desert reserves. Stunning Pacific coastline where desert meets ocean.

1:00pm - 2:15pm

Direct bus from Paracas to Huacachina, a small natural oasis located in the Ica desert.

4:30pm - 6:30pm

2 hours of dune buggying and sandboarding - Ride the dune buggies up and sandboard down the biggest dunes in South America. A once in a lifetime experience in the only natural desert oasis in South America.

7:00pm - 11:45pm

Bus back to Lima. You will be dropped off at your hotel/hostel.
