What is Bolivia Hop & How It Works

Bolivia Hop is all about discovering the REAL Bolivia and Peru through the eyes of a local. Our drivers and guides know the hidden gems, the stops between the stops that tourists would never find, and are also happy to share stories of what life was and is like in both countries along the way. An authentic local experience in a safe, flexible and fun way! Read more below about what Bolivia Hop is and how it works!

Bolivia Hop offers 2 distinct travel options:

  1. Book 1 single bus pass that covers ALL bus journeys – no need to research bus tickets and routes!
  2. 1 or 2 Day City Trips – Ideal for those who plan to fly within Bolivia/Peru and have a day or 2 extra in Lima or Cusco for example. Click HERE to view our Day Trips

There are a few ways to travel within Bolivia and Peru:

  1. Planes (You will miss a LOT of stops not served by Airports, such as Huacachina, Paracas, Puno/Lake Titicaca and more). Note that if you are very short on time, a combination of planes and day trips by bus could work well.
  2. Local Public Buses (no central bus terminal, many companies with poor safety records, lack of English speaking staff, no stops between the stops to see the hidden gems)
  3. Guided Tour Company (usually VERY expensive, no flexibility to choose what you want to do and when you want to do it, can’t stay anywhere longer. Fixed, rigid, and expensive)
  4. Bolivia Hop (Safe, Flexible and Fun giving an authentic local experience whilst meeting other like-minded travelers along the way)

Border Crossing Bolivia/Peru

Crossing the Peru/Bolivia border can be a hellish ordeal even for seasoned travelers. There are plenty of horror stories on the notorious police scams, stolen bags, made-up fines, and refused entries. The language barrier for many non-Spanish speakers doesn´t help.

Most public buses won’t give you advice regarding which are the necessary forms to fill out, nor which offices you need to enter to get your passport stamped leaving you all on your own in dangerous territory. This is a review you can find on TripAdvisor on one of the public buses page: “They told us to get off at the Bolivian border with no direction on where to go or what to do. Ended up wandering the streets for an hour trying to figure out how to get through immigration”. A simple Google search will show you all the truly unbelievable things that have and keep on happening at the border.

Luckily, you won’t have to worry about any of that while traveling with Bolivia Hop! Our highly professional, bilingual guides take all the stress out of the dreaded border crossing. They will have the necessary paperwork on the bus, helping you fill out the sheets while answering any doubts or questions you have at the moment.
